What's your dream for the future? If you want to be a scientists, you can begin right now. Some science experiments can be done at home. The experiments are quick and simple. You'll find them easy and exciting.

Let's begin with an experiment about heat and air. It is called "Bubbling Bottle." You can find the things you need in your kitchen.

Are you ready? Follow the directions carefully. You can do the experiment without any trouble. And the pictures will help you.

1. Put a straw in the mouth of the bottle and put clay around it.

2. Tape the other straws to the first one to make one long straw.

3. Put some food coloring in the glass of water.

4. Stand the bottle in the dish. One end of the straw is in the bottle. Now bend the straw and put the other end in the glass of water.

5. Pour the warm water over the bottle. Bubbles of air come out of the straw.

6. Now pour the cold water over the bottle. The colored water goes up the straw and into the bottle.

What happens when you pour the warm water over the bottle? The air inside gets bigger. It takes up more room. Some of it is pushed out of the straw. It comes out as bubbles.

What happens when you pour the cold water over the bottle? The water cools the air inside. Then the air takes up less space. The colored water comes into the bottle and takes up the empty space.

You will need : a balloon, cold and warm water, and a plastic cup.

1. Pour some warm water into the plastic cup.

2. Pour some cold water over the balloon.

3. Pour the warm water out of the cup. Put the balloon on the top of the cup and push it down.

4. Wait a minute. Now lift the balloon.

The cup sticks to it.

Sang-ho : Yes. We learned a balloon can pick up a cup.

In-su : It was like magic!

 

Dialogue 2

Sang-ho : Look at that strange building.

It is made out of old bottles.

Mike : Really?

Sang-ho : Yes. It was made by a famous artist.

Mike : He must be smart.

Sang-ho : Shall we go inside?

Mike : Sorry, I can't. I have to go now, or I'll miss my bus.
