Sang-ho's Trip to New York

 

Mike's family was going to New York to visit Mike's grandparents. Mike asked Sang-ho to go with him Sang-ho asked his mother about going to New York. Mr. and Mrs. Kim talked it over and decided to let him go. Sang-ho was excited about going to the United States.

Finally the day arrived. Sang-ho's family went to the airport to say good-bye.

Mike and Sang-ho checked in together. They got seats side by side.

The trip was very long. But Sang-ho thought it was exciting, because it was his first plane trip. Sang-ho slept a little. Finally Sang-ho heard, "Please fasten your seat belts. We will be landing in 10 minutes."

Mike's grandparents were waiting for them. They were very happy to see Mike and his family. They kissed to see Mike and his family. They kissed everyone. Mike's grandfather shook hands with Sang-ho and said. "Welcome to New York."

It took a long time to drive to the house. At the front door Sang-ho began to take off his shoes. Mike stopped him. He said to Sang-ho, "Leave your shoes on."

Sang-ho thought that was strange.

The next day they went sightseeing. In the morning they went to the top of the Empire State Building.

Then they had lunch in a restaurant near Central Park. Sang-ho didn't like the food, but he tried to be polite. When they got up to leave, Sang-ho saw some dollar bills on the table.

"Mr. Smith!" he said, "I think you dropped some money." Everyone laughed.

"That's for the waiter," Mike explained, "It's a tip."

 

Aug. 10

Dear Father,

How are you? I'm fine. I'm having a wonderful time here in New York. New York is a strange place. But it is interesting.

Yesterday I went to the Empire State Building and Central Park. I really enjoyed seeing the city. I have lots to tell you.

Dialogue 1

상호가 공항에서 출입국 관리자와 이야기하고 있다.

 

Officer : May I have your passport?

Sang-ho : I beg your pardon?

Officer : Your passport, please.

Snag-ho : Oh, sorry.

Officer : How long will you stay in America?

Sang-ho : For two weeks.

Officer : All right. Have a nice holiday.

Sang-ho : Thank you.

 

Dialogue 2

상호가 인숙이와 만나 뉴욕 여행에 대해 이야기하고 있다.

 

Sang-ho : In-suk! It's good to see you again. How have you been?

In-suk : Fine. How was your trip to New York?

Sang-ho : It was great. I have lots of things to tell you.

In-suk : How long does it take to get there?

Sang-ho : It takes about 17 hours by plane.

Have you ever been to America?

In-suk : No, never.
