Two Good Brothers

 

A long time ago in a small village there lived two brothers, Min and Chin. They were very good brothers and good friends, too. Every day they went to the rice field to work. They always helped each other.

They worked hard and finally it was time to harvest. After they harvested the rice, they divided it in half.

That night, the younger brother was thinking about his brother, Min.

I'm afraid I was wrong. Min has a wife and three children. I have only a wife and myself. It isn't fair. He should have more than I have.

That night Min could not sleep, either.

I was wrong. Chin just got married. He needs more money than I do. How can we take the same amount of rice? It isn't fair.

Min decided to give some rice to his brother. But he thought his brother wouldn't take it. so he took it during the night when his brother was sleeping.

The next morning Min looked at his rice. He rubbed his eyes. There was just as much rice as before in his house.

He thought, "I must take more to my brother tonight."

That night Min took some more rice to Chin. But in the morning he had as much rice as before.

The next night was dark and cloudy. Min loaded his A-frame with as much rice as he could. On the way Min saw someone coming toward him. It was Chin! On his back he was carrying an A-frame loaded with rice. They met halfway. Without saying a word, the brothers dropped their A-frames and hugged each other. At that moment the bright moon came out of the clouds and shone on them.

 

 

Dialogue 1

상호와 인숙이가 조기 청소에 참가할 약속을 하고 있다.

 

Sang-ho : Our homeroom teacher will be at school at 7:30.

Let's be there at 7.

In-suk : I'll try to be there by 7.

Sang-ho : You won't be late, will you? The teacher will check.

In-suk : I hope not.

Sang-ho : Get up early, and you wont be late. Have someone wake you up.

In-suk : I'll have my mother do it.

 

 

Dialogue 2

상호와 인숙이가 집으로 돌아오는 길에 만나 이야기를 나눈다.

 

In-suk : I can't believe the school year is almost over!

Sang-ho : Neither can I! We learned a lot, and had a good time, didn't we?

In-suk : Yes, I hope next year is as good.

Sang-ho : I hope it will be better.

What are you going to do next year?

In-suk : I'm going to study harder.

Sang-ho : So am I. And I plan to read many books.
